"There appears to be little
point in travelling if you never really experience your destination"
|
One morning Mrs Fifield went out to buy a Mars Bar and came home
with this cheerful gentleman’s lodgings, just two minutes from the grander
residence in Great Pulteney Street. This is not a classic studio apartment,
because it isn't small. It is, however, a classic Bath apartment with high
ceilings and marble fireplaces, on the ground floor of this Grade II listed
building. Daniel St is a quiet street away from the main traffic thoroughfares.
Henrietta Park is your garden and the Holbourne Museum is just a stone's throw
away. Number 2 will suit those of more meagre means, providing lovely
lodgings in a quiet city street. And enjoy a ‘pie and a pint’ in the convivial Pulteney Arms
opposite. A real quality of life on
the doorstep.

The Gentleman’s Lodgings has an air of a well travelled gentleman’s
accommodation everything you need is there and you have the city on your doorstep.
|
| Our website tries to evoke the relaxed atmosphere of the
Gentleman’s Lodgings, so where a mug of coffee and a book seem
appropriate, they are there. Luggage
and shoes are on the floor because although ‘we really are neat freaks’
we wanted to show you how comfortable this flat is to inhabit, by using
images that suggest that someone has just ‘got up from the table’ and
gone into town. This
Gentleman’s Lodgings will be tidy and a bit frighteningly clean for your
arrival, but we do want you to make yourselves at home. |

You may feel as if he (his photograph has pride of place above the mantel
piece) has loaned it to you whilst adventuring aboard gathering artefacts.

“Then
Bath spread herself before us, like a beautiful dowager giving a reception.
Bath, like Edinburgh has the rare trick of surprising you all over again. You
know very well it is like that, yet somehow your memory must have diminished
the wonder of it, for there it is, taking your breath away again."

As an International Adventurer this gentleman has imported the wall-bed

“Let us not speak, for the love we bear one another—
Let us hold hands and look.
She such a very ordinary little woman;
He such a thumping crook;
But both, for a moment, little lower than the angels
In the teashop's inglenook.”

A good place for breakfast, coffee and the paper |
|
He likes coming home to Bath, he loves the architecture. The wide
boulevard of Great Pulteney Street (which in his opinion is not bettered
anywhere in Europe) lifts his spirits as he takes a flat stroll into town for
breakfast and provisions.

On his return he cuts through Henrietta Park, sits awhile, and
contemplates how good life is. He has a comfortable home in a city he loves
that is economical and easily managed, allowing him to travel abroad at will.
Whilst he’s away, he invites you to ‘try on his life’.

“Bath
is a spot of ground which our countrymen ought to esteem as a particular

| As you can see from the floor
plan, this studio is not a broom cupboard, but a great space to relax
in. |
